What’s On Your Fence?

Find outdoor décor at flea markets and garage sales.  Buy new trellises and spray paint then screw onto to fence.  Place plant hangers on or around the trellis. You can even paint the hangers to match the trellis. A collection of multi-colored bird houses of different designs can transform a fence instantly, plus provide shelter for different bird species.

Painted squares with metallic craft paint with metal garden edging placed around the painted squares gives it a unique and funky “frame.”

Two flea market frames had the center round plaques removed and then attached to the painted squares.  Then two wall hooks from Home Depot were added to the painted squares to hold glass decorative candles.  The painted squares are lightly illuminated at night when the candles are glowing.  Its a simple and easy project taking-up about 5-feet of fence space.

Potted plants are arranged under the painted frame with one hanging plant right in the middle.

Decorating with plants is easy and can add much needed color to brighten-up an outdoor space.

Sun Faces are traditionally hung at the entrance of a house to invite "Happy Spirits" to enter your home. Place them in the garden or on the fence to invite happy spirits to the backyard.

Decorating with Trellises

The trellis was originally intended to support vine stock — which gives its name : lat Trichila = greenery bower. Though it is unknown when and where the trellis was invented, the trellis has been mentioned in literature and botanical works throughout history. When the art of gardening was perfected by André Le Nôtre and Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the treillis became an object of decoration and was entrusted to particular workers named treillageurs. There are many types of trellis for different places and for different plants, from agricultural types, especially in viticulture, which are covered at vine training systems, to garden uses for climbers such as grapevines, clematis, ivy, and climbing roses or other support based growing plants.  Source: Wikipedia 2017
